Assistance to compatriots has always been provided according to governmental resolutions. Resettlement of compatriots to the Czech Republic was carried out under the Alien Residence Act, which views compatriots in the same way as any other aliens. The preferential treatment of compatriots currently applied, as compared with the treatment of other aliens, is also based on a governmental resolution and on the related internal guidelines of the governmental agencies concerned.
